Committing crimes

Crimes are the heart of Ottomaan. Every successful attempt earns akçe and prestige, and makes you better at the trade.

Petty and major crimes

You start small: stealing figs from a fruit stall, threatening a scribe or robbing an ox cart. From the rank of Ağa the major crimes open up, such as raiding an arms convoy from the arsenal, robbing the mint or fleecing a Venetian envoy. They pay much more, but the chance of success is lower.

Chance and experience

Every crime has a chance of success. Every attempt, successful or not, makes you better, until you reach your highest chance. If it fails, the subaşı's men take you away and you spend some time in the zindan, until another player frees you or your sentence is up.

Timers and sultani

After each attempt you have to wait a while. With sultani, the gold coins of the court, you skip a timer or buy an advocate who talks you free.

Forge seals

Fake a ferman or a safe-conduct and put a seal under it that looks real. You choose from a list of words, and after each guess you see how many letters are in the right place. If you don't manage within your attempts, the fraud is noticed.

Crack treasure chests

Turn the lock and listen: cold, lukewarm, warm, hot, and a click at the right number. From a merchant's chest to the tax chest with five digits. Sometimes there are kurşun or a sultani inside too.

Jobs for the city

Yusuf Efendi, Safiye Hatun, Bekir Ağa, Kara Ali and Hekim Hamon always have work. You choose a safe or a risky approach. Every successful job earns respect, and with more respect heavier jobs open up that pay better.

Smuggling

Whoever wants more smuggles spices and wine between eleven cities of the empire. Every city has its own prices: buy cheap, travel and sell dear. But whoever carries too much draws the attention of the toll officials.
