Ottomaan has started: how to play
The gates are open: Ottomaan has started. It is a free game set in the empire of Sultan Süleyman, around 1520, that you play in your browser, on your computer, tablet or phone. Nothing to download, nothing to pay to join. Below you can read how to start, what you can collect every day and where to find all the explanations.
How to start
Click Play now and you are in the city right away. Choose a name, and Sultan Süleyman shows you around in nine steps: your first crime, your first horse, the sarraf (money changer) and your first rewards. At the end, 100 sultani await you, the gold coin of the empire. For the first 48 hours you are protected: nobody can attack you. Secure your account with your email, a passkey, Google or Discord, and you will never lose it.
The city is your playing field
Everything happens on the city map. Tap a building and its options appear in a ring around it; a building with a single option opens straight away. At the bottom you find Army, Crimes, Missions, Regiment and All. The Tasks list keeps track of what you can do now, with your previous crime ready to repeat in one tap.
Your first week
Newcomers get a beginner week: every day one goal opens, from the rank Çırak (apprentice) to Usta (master), each with akçe and sultani as a reward. Missed a day? You can still catch up later. On top of that, First steps holds eight small tasks to get to know the empire, with a final reward when everything is done. You find it all under To do.
Something to collect every day
- Your envelope: a reward every day, and the longer your streak, the fuller it gets. Every seventh day in a row it is made of gold.
- Three daily tasks that count along automatically with what you already do. All three in one day earns 3 sultani; manage that on five days of the week and the weekly reward follows, with akçe and 15 sultani.
- The click mission: vote on the toplists and get paid for it. Every Sunday the three best voters of the week win a prize.
- Turn on notifications in your account and you get a nudge as soon as your wait times are over.
From reaya to sadrazam
You start as a reaya, an ordinary subject. With crimes, stolen horses, services for the city and your army you climb through twelve ranks, up to sadrazam (grand vizier). With every new rank the court grants you sultani. All ranks are in the game guide.
What you do in the empire
Commit crimes at the bazaar, steal horses and ride cirit (the horseback contest with the javelin), forge seals, crack treasure chests and smuggle spices and wine between eleven cities. Try your luck in the kumarhane (the gambling house), expand your konak (mansion), train at the wrestling ground and raise an army in the ordugâh (army camp). Read more about crimes, horses, the kumarhane, the army and mülk and the cities.
Together in a regiment
Alone you are easy prey. Join an orta (regiment) or found one yourself: together you fill the kazan (shared treasury), commit regiment crimes and go on akın (raid). How that works is explained under regiments in the game guide.
Seasons
The first season, the beta, runs until 2 January 2027. After that everyone starts over, with a fair chance to finish at the top. What you achieved does not disappear: your final place and rank go on your profile, with gold, silver and bronze for the top three. The top 25 also enters the in-game hall of fame, and the titles from missions stay too.
Been away for a while?
If you are away for a week or longer, a package awaits you on your return: twelve hours of half wait times, akçe at the sarraf and kurşun (bullets). That way you catch up quickly.
